When McCleary isn't McCleary

When doing web research for items on McCleary, it is common to get results that aren't about the City of McCleary. McCleary is a surname, and especially important in web search terms is the use of the surname McCleary for the McCleary v. State court case. "McCleary" in this case meaning Mathew and Stephanie McCleary et al:
Respondent Mathew McCleary and his wife Stephanie, individually and on behalf of their children enrolled in the state of Washington’s public school system, filed suit against the state in the Superior Court for King County. The McClearys asserted that the state is violating its duty under Article IX §1 of the Washington State Constitution to adequately fund its K-12 school system. The trial court found in favor of the McClearys, ruling that state funding for K-12 education is not ample, not stable, and not dependable and ordering the legislature to proceed with real and measurable progress. The state of Washington appealed this decision directly to the Supreme Court of Washington.

This does make for some headlines amusing to those of us living in the City of McCleary:

Reported tonight is a 3 car accident on Highway 8, Summit Lake, highway closed and possibly will be for several hours. Anyone headed west advised to detour through Shelton and McCleary, so we are probably seeing increased traffic in area tonight.

"From China to McCleary"

Go read the article "From China to McCleary" by Steven Friederich in The Vidette - Feb 7, 2013 issue.

We couldn't find an issue for sale in either McCleary or Elma this past Saturday, they'd all already been sold out, so we drove to The Vidette office in Monte for a copy. Now we've subscribed to The Vidette and I suggest you all do the same. This potential new development is an ongoing story.

Also read Steven Friederich's Editor's Note on Public Information in that issue.

Preserve Public Safety

In 2012 the Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to 35 collisions on the portion of State Route 8 that runs through Fire District 12. There were 44 collisions in 2011 and 28 collisions in 2010. We own it to the public to make sure there we continue to have ambulance & EMS respond to these kinds of accidents on the highways surrounding. Help us pass the Levy to preserve public safety!
