2.9 magnitude earthquake north of McCleary

I was startled awake this morning but didn't realize it was an earthquake til I saw the news later.  

Summit Pacific

The new Elma hospital has a name, and it is Summit Pacific Medical Center

Mark Reed Hospital will close on a Sunday in February 2013 and Summit Pacific Medical Center will open in Elma that same day. The current Mark Reed Campus in McCleary consists of both Mark Reed Healthcare Clinic and Mark Reed Hospital. When Mark Reed Hospital closes in February 2013, Mark Reed Healthcare Clinic will remain open and operating out of its current offices.

(Personally I wish the hospital could have remained in McCleary. Also wish the name Mark Reed could have been somehow kept or included because I appreciate the history. But at the same time I do understand the need for change and expansion, I wish the new hospital well.)

Well Water

The city well improvement project starts officially September 4, 2012. We are asked to limit lawn watering and excessive water use during September.

The project will last 5 - 6 months. During some of this time we might experience more of that familiar rotten egg smell from our water.

How to cope with hard water in McCleary 

So this is a good time to stock up on white vineger, baking soda, and lemon for use around the house - this works well for cleaning and decrusting plumbing fixtures. Might also want to regularly buy bottled water for drinking, just because it will taste and smell better for now.

Our water might temporarily seem to get worse, but thanks to everyone working on this project, it will eventually be so much better.

City Wide Garage Sale Sept 15, 2012

September 15th is our annual city wide garage sale. Sign up can be done at Subway. Cost is $5. This fee will get your address on the map. Deadline for this registration is Sept. 8th. Also the VFW hall will have tables available for $25 a table if you wish to have your sale there.

No Tavern Town

Is this the first time in McCleary history that we've been without a bar?

Maybe the Fish Brewing Company of Olympia could open a pub there. Or maybe a business could sell Wishkah River Distillery and Westport Winery products, along with other Grays Harbor drinkables there.

Municipal Code of the Month

Just noticed this on the City of McCleary web site, good idea, so I'll help boost the signal.

8.16.080 Defacing public or private property.

No person shall mar, injure, destroy or deface, or aid in injuring, destroying or defacing in the city, any public or private property, or cause to be posted or stuck, any handbill or placard upon any public or private building, or upon any fence or other property within the city without the permission from the owner or occupant first obtained; or mar, injure, destroy or deface or cause to be marred, destroyed, injured or defaced any bridge, fence, tree, street sign, awning, lamppost, electric light post, or apparatus or any other property, not belonging to the person so offending, whether public or private. (Ord. 308 § 10, 1973)

This offense carries a minumum penalty of $250.00 per Section 8.16.230 of the McCleary Municipal Code.
