The
1940 census is now publically available for free.
Indexers are working on indexing and making it easily searchable. So for now we can't yet search by names, but we can look over census records of our locations.
Look over this portion of the 1940 census map. Up in the right hand map area you'll see McCleary. A square is drawn around our area on the map and within are two numbers - 14-73 and 14-74.
Those numbers are our enumeration district numbers for 1940 census. (If you live outside this area you can still use this guide:
look over the census maps to discover what your enumeration district was, then look through the actual census for that district.)
14-74
You can page through the census schedules, get a sense of what part of town you are looking at, and then find your own address - or at least close. Street names are written along the left side of each census form.
In 1940, who lived where you live now?
