Ruckus on the Roof
Last last month, about dawn, we heard a brief ruckus on the roof. One of our four cats, Charlie, later was in evident pain and unable to carry his tail as usual. Eventually we got Charlie into the vet, our local vet wasn't available so he went in to the West Olympia Pet Hospital. They did a wonderful job with him. Incredibly enough, Charlie was so calm they did not even have to sedate him during tail fur shaving and other procedures. Perhaps he was very grateful for pain relief.
Turns out he had been attacked and his tail bitten. We figure it happened during that ruckus on the roof, and that a raccoon is the culprit.
Total vet bill $113, fortunately Charlie has healed quite well. We had to keep him inside for a week after his vet visit. Now he can once again enjoy the outside during the day, though we keep all the cats in until well after dawn.
We don't leave pet food or water outside, as this can attract raccoons. But there are trees here, including fruit and nut trees in the neighborhood, so raccoons will be around.

Mystery Grays Harbor film from '20s
Lost and Found Films: ‘Aberdeen Gathering’
Anyone know what is going on in this film? Some proposals have been May Day celebration or mortage burning ceremony. Follow link above to add in ideas. Anything like this ever happen in East County?

McCleary Grateful
Beautiful morning in McCleary. No cloud cover last night so there is a nip in the air at the moment, makes for nice brisk walking weather. Blue skies and we'll have another gorgeous day.
I've lived here for about 10 months now and am thinking on what I'm grateful for:
- downtown flowers
- new welcome signs
- Cheema Market open and busy
- our public library and post office
- the hum of the Simpson Door plant = jobs
- Rain Country Restaurant open early
- dedicated law enforcement working on bringing Lindsey Baum home
Times are tough, especially here in Grays Harbor County, but hopefully we can find something to be grateful for on this beautiful late summer day.

May 25, 1980 ash fall East County
Most interesting was the medium vulnerability rating in the Grays Harbor County plan. This is from the Analysis of Local Hazard Vulnerability which is part of Washington State Enhanced Hazard Mitigation Plan.
While prevailing winds nearly always would carry ash fall east away from this county, its vulnerability determination appears based on the May 25, 1980 ash fall from Mount St.Helens. The county’s plan stated this event deposited from one-quarter to three quarters of an inch of ash in the east-county area leading to power outages, hazardous travel conditions, and stranded tourists.
Imagine that - ash fall here in the area that could cause dangerous conditions.

Meth News
And Undersheriff Rick Scott says that individuals who were arrested for having meth labs in the 1990s and early 2000s are starting to get out of prison.Could meth labs make a comeback?
In April, deputies found their first meth lab in the county in nearly three years at a home in the Ocosta area. Scott said deputies arrested a man who had just been released from prison for meth-related activity.
"He was attempting to get back in the business," Scott said. "And there is a concern as more of these kinds of people get out of prison, there could be a slight resurgence in domestic production either to satisfy their own habits or to make money. ...
"Also a driving factor is that Mexican law enforcement has been dismantling the drug cartels, which is making the availability of meth more sporadic," Scott added.

Mayor Campaign 1999
Lots of local issues here that probably won't make sense to an outsider. This comic did get a number of people very upset and an equal number very amused. As you can imagine this didn't make me very popular with the town pillars. By word of mouth I heard Morty took about 5% of the vote as a write-in. His tally didn't have an impact on the outcome.Quote from Steve's post about this campaign, includes complete comic and newspaper articles.
