Music makes the world go around! (Adopt a McCleary Classroom)

I teach General Music, Band, Choir and Technology to students in grades K through 8 in McCleary, Washington. Our music/band and technology programs are growing, along with the student population. My students are creative, spontaneous and excited by music & technology, (and the combination of the two!). We need everything from sheet music, additional instruments, (such as drums, large woodwind/brass instruments), to music theory software and computers. Our building is new, but the acoustics are not the best. We could use acoustical treatments for our walls. Any and all help GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!

(Updated: Sold) Open a gas station/store in McCleary, Washington

This place has been empty for awhile and we need it open and thriving.

Here are my requests:

*competitively priced gas
*friendly service
*good selection of local and regional newspapers, maybe throw in the NY Times too
*decent coffee
*local lore has it that someone used to actually make donuts at this location and that they were the best around - fresh donuts would be a big draw to both locals and travellers - but I understand if you can't do that

This location is right in town, right near post office, public library, laundromat, across the street from a grocery store. During the summer and all holidays a lot of traffic, including bicycle tour groups, comes through town to and from coast.

Place a few picnic tables outside. Add a community bulletin board. Maybe add a booth or two inside. Listen to customers about what they want in brews and snacks and other goodies.

2010 population: 1,653

The new census just came out and so far the easiest to understand version is via The Spokesman-Review Census 2010: Washington site for McCleary .

So according to the Census Bureau McCleary would be still classified as rural:

The Census Bureau identifies two types of urban areas:

  • Urbanized Areas (UAs) of 50,000 or more people;
  • Urban Clusters (UCs) of at least 2,500 and less than 50,000 people.
“Rural” encompasses all population, housing, and territory not included within an urban area.

Hurrah for Glass Recycling!

Glass recycling containers are now available at the park and ride lot on Mommsen street, behind the Shell Station. This is for glass only, nothing else.

Why recycle glass?
  • Glass never wears out -- it can be recycled forever.
  • We save over a ton of resources for every ton of glass recycled -- 1,330 pounds of sand, 433 pounds of soda ash, 433 pounds of limestone, and 151 pounds of feldspar.
  • Most bottles and jars contain at least 25% recycled glass.
  • Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
