Just Because I Say It - Doesn't Mean It's True

I could claim to be psychic or work with someone who claims to be psychic. We could claim that missing children cases have been solved before by this psychic power. We could invent long stories and get other people to buy in. They would repeat the stories.

I could say I've formed an organization dedicated to finding missing children. I could send out press releases. I could take donations. I could claim that I have extra special knowledge that I can't reveal to anyone.

I could whip up a lot of drama and intrigue.

If I did all this, maybe it would be because I am delusional and I believe my own self-created rep. Or maybe I would also be in it for the scam potential.

No matter what, I would hope people would be wise and think twice, several times, before giving me any money or unresearched media coverage.  I would hope that people would read what Mark Klaas has to say about psychic detectives:

Psychic Detectives are the vanguard of a second wave of predators that also includes tabloid journalists, cheesy defense lawyers and photo-op politicians. They use tabloid newspapers and talk shows to boast about their accomplishments and predict success. They materialize whenever children are kidnapped and circle the cases like vultures on a fresh carcass.

more

I would hope that any actual tips would be turned in to the police, rather than held as any kind of supposed secret special psychic proof. I would hope that no one would give me time, money, or press. Or identifying info that could be used in ID theft.

I would hope that a web search on my name would be done to see what I've been up to in the past.

Just because I say it, doesn't mean it's true.
